Several Judice Middle School students were injured in a school bus accident Wednesday afternoon, KATC-TV reported.

Lafayette Parish School System officials said 7 to 9 students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following the crash on South Fieldspan Road near Congress Street, according to KATC-TV.

State Police said minor to moderate injuries were reported by the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the accident.

The students who weren’t injured were taken home by another bus, Transportation Director Damon Evans told KATC-TV.

Two men booked on synthetic meth count

Broussard Police arrested two Lafayette men and seized more than half a pound of synthetic marijuana during a traffic stop Wednesday, authorities said.

Emmanuel Hebert, 23, was found with 280 grams of the substance and $233 in cash, and 34-year-old Christopher Savoy had 48 grams in his possession, Police Chief Brannon Decou said.

The two were passengers in a vehicle traveling on Sweetland Drive when an officer flagged them down for a traffic violation, Decou said. Officers got written consent to search the vehicle after one of the two passengers tried to flee.

Hebert was booked on possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics, having money derived from drug proceeds and a warrant for failing to appear in court, Decou said, and Savoy was booked for second-offense possession of Schedule I narcotics.

Boy suspected in burglaries arrested

A 15-year-old boy suspected in at least five New Iberia burglaries was arrested Tuesday, KATC-TV reported.

Sheriff Louis Ackal said deputies saw the boy leaving the scene of a burglary on Sis Street on Tuesday, and he was soon linked to at least four more burglaries on Field Street and Breaux Alley the same day, according to KATC-TV. The teenager was booked into the juvenile detention center on two counts of aggravated burglary and three counts of simple burglary.

Investigators are looking into whether more people were involved with the crimes, KATC-TV reported.

Driver in hit-and-run accident sought

State troopers are requesting the public’s help in locating a hit-and-run driver who fled a Monday afternoon wreck on La. 101.

The driver headed south toward the community of Hayes after fleeing a two-car wreck in front of the Bayou Mart convenience store, according to Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman.

The driver is described as a white man with dark hair in his late 20s or early 30s, and he was driving a green or metallic-colored two-door Dodge Challenger, Anderson said. The car should have substantial damage to its front end, along with pre-existing damage to its passenger side, Anderson said.

Anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle is asked to call Louisiana State Police Troop D Special Operations Unit at (337) 491-2929 or (337) 491-2930. Callers can remain anonymous.
