MORGAN CITY — A bomb threat found scribbled on the wall of a portable toilet at a power-plant construction site Tuesday morning turned out to be a hoax, Morgan City police said.
Construction resumed around noon at the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority’s natural gas-fired electric power plant on Youngs Road after police searched for the alleged destructive device and came up empty-handed, Morgan City police spokesman Capt. James Blair said.
A portion of Youngs Road that is under construction near the plant was closed as a precaution while investigators scoured the premises, Blair said. The nearby Young Memorial Campus of Louisiana Technical College, which was closed during the investigation, will reopen Wednesday.
A representative from the plant’s Alabama contractor, Robins & Morton, alerted police of the note at 10:59 a.m., Blair said. It indicated a device was on the premises and was set to detonate by 11:30 a.m.
“That turned up empty,” Blair said.
