Police ID victim of Sunday shooting
LAFAYETTE — Police identified the victim of a Sunday shooting in Lafayette as Patrick Thibeaux, 36, according to a news release Tuesday.
Police have said Thibeaux was shot twice in the chest during an argument with Jonathon Troy Alfred, 38.
The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Northern Avenue, police have said.
Alfred was arrested on one count of second-degree murder.
Lafayette woman, 51, dies after house fire
LAFAYETTE — A 51-year-old Lafayette woman died over the weekend after a fire at her home. The Fire Department received the call at 7:45 a.m. Sunday.
Alton Trahan, a Fire Department spokesman, said firefighters found Belinda Bass Schoeffler on the floor in the master bedroom, where the fire is believed to have started.
Schoeffler was taken to a local hospital where she died a short time later.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
Man killed while crossing intersection
LAFAYETTE — An unidentified pedestrian died in a Monday fatal crash at the intersection of Garber Road and the southeast Evangeline Thruway, according to a Lafayette Police Department news release.
The crash occurred about 9 p.m. Monday when the man, whose identity has not been determined, was struck by an SUV while attempting to cross the thruway, the release said.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash, the news release said.
