The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested two Lafayette residents early Saturday morning after narcotics agents say they discovered them in possession of marijuana, a pistol and thousands of dollars in cash during a traffic stop.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office patrol officers noticed Alfred Onezine, 27, and Mennefer Sinegal, 35, attempting to hide a pistol and what appeared to be significant amounts of marijuana and cash when the pair were pulled over for a traffic stop on Poydras Highway near Ruth Bridge Highway shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Agents who responded to the scene found high-grade marijuana, a loaded pistol and more than $4,000 in cash, the release says.

Onezine and Sinegal were arrested on a count of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I controlled dangerous substances (Marijuana), illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of a CDS and obstruction of justice. Onezine was also booked on a count of speeding, the release says.
