CHARENTON — One man died, another was arrested and another person is being sought in a single-vehicle crash on Chitimacha Trail near Charenton early Friday morning that claimed the life of the New Iberia man, according to a Louisiana State Police press release.
They were among four men in a 2011 Nissan Altima traveling eastbound on Chitimacha Trail entering a left curve around 8 a.m. Friday. The driver failed to negotiate the curve, causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the roadway, enter a ditch and strike a culvert, state police said. The Nissan overturned several times, ejecting Brylan Domingue, 20, of New Iberia.
Domingue, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
Three other occupants in the vehicle fled after the crash, the release says.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s police dogs were deployed and found two of the three occupants hiding in a field. One of the occupants is still being sought.
Investigators identified Matthew Trosclair, 28, of Franklin, as the driver, state police said.
Impairment is considered a factor in this crash, and toxicology samples were taken from Trosclair and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Trosclair was arrested and booked at the St. Mary Parish Jail.
