A 66-year-old St. Martinville man died early Sunday morning after his Ford Mustang ran off the road and struck a telephone pole, according to the State Police.

Clyde Gedward’s car ran off the right side of the road in a bend on La. 347 near Sonny Drive in St. Martin Parish just after midnight, said Master Trooper Brooks David, a State Police spokesman.

David said Gedward was not wearing a seat belt and was critically injured. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation, David said, and troopers aren’t yet sure if impairment or other factors may have played a role in the wreck.

Area man arrested in double homicide

Five people are in custody, including a Youngsville man, in connection with a double homicide that occurred Saturday in Angola in West Feliciana Parish, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to deputies, 23-year-old Kylie Jackson, 21-year-old Raven Majoria and 26-year-old Lindsey Dooley were arrested by the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

Paul Bourque Jr., 22, of Youngsville, and Kristofer L. Cockerham, 19, of St. Francisville, turned themselves in to Lafayette police Sunday.

Deputies say Bourque is still being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on outstanding warrants but has been booked on first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Clinton Ray Nicholson and Brian Mooney.

Authorities were summoned to a Tunica Trace mobile home after neighbors reported hearing gunshots, the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Nicholson and Mooney were found dead when deputies arrived at the trailer.

Arrests were made after a witness, who has not been identified, reported the license plate number of a vehicle after a wallet was thrown from the car. The wallet belonged to one of the victims, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies also said a methamphetamine lab was discovered outside the residence where the shootings occurred.
