BAYOU VISTA — A Berwick woman police say was driving without insurance was accused of hit-and-run driving after crashing into a school bus on Monday and fleeing the scene.
Authorities arrested Tiffany L. Romero, 36, of 105 Nichole Lane, on counts of hit-and-run, expired inspection sticker, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia after finding her damaged car, which matched descriptions witnesses gave of the car involved in the school-bus crash, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they found a glass pipe inside the car they suspected of being used to smoke drugs.
Six children were inside the school bus when a crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and side-swiped the bus, the Sheriff’s Office said. None reported injuries.
Romero remained in the St. Mary Parish jail on Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $3,000 bail.
