ABBEVILLE — Trial was delayed for two Abbeville teens facing first-degree murder charges in the 2012 beating death of an Abbeville man.
Judge Edward Broussard granted a continuance Monday in the trials of Kiwane Narcisse and Tevin Johnson, both 19, who are accused in the death of 59-year-old Tam Ninh Thai.
Narcisse’s trial date in 15th Judicial District Court was reset for May 4, and Johnson’s was reset for June 29.
A third teenager, 18-year-old Reco Davis, was sentenced in February to 40 years hard labor with 10 years suspended and credit for time served on a manslaughter conviction in Thai’s death. Davis was 15 at the time of the Jan. 11, 2012, crime. Johnson and Narcisse were 16.
The teens are accused of beating Thai in an attempt to rob him near South Lyman and Felicity Streets, according to police reports filed in the case. They later returned to the scene, found Thai immobile and called 911, claiming they found the man that way.
Thai died a day later an Abbeville General Hospital. A grand jury indicted the teens the same day.
