State Police have identified an Abbeville man killed in a Maurice roadway crash Thursday afternoon and are asking any witnesses to come forward with information.
Carl Johnson, 51, died at a hospital after 3 p.m. after a Dodge Charger rear-ended his motorcycle on U.S. 167 near Placide Road, ejecting him from the bike, said Master Trooper Brooks David, State Police spokesman for Troop I.
Both vehicles were traveling north on U.S. 167 when Johnson switched into the left lane in front of the Charger, and he had begun slowing down quickly when the Charger rear-ended his motorcycle, David said.
The two people in the Charger, identified Friday as 26-year-old Elizabeth Trahan and 45-year-old Victor Guilamo, both of Lafayette, were wearing seatbelts and suffered minor injuries, but investigators are still working to determine who was driving the car at the time of the crash, David said.
Toxicology samples were taken from Johnson and one of the people who was in the Charger, David said. The case remains under investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Louisiana State Police Troop I at (337) 262-5880.
