LAFAYETTE — An Oklahoma man who moved to Lafayette only days ago was arrested in the home invasion and sexual assault of the female homeowner early Sunday morning, according to Lafayette Police.
Lafayette Police were called to the residence about 5:45 a.m., spokesman Cpl. Karl Ratcliff said in a news release Monday evening.
After the assault, the assailant forced the victim to drive him to an ATM to withdraw money, then fled from the victim’s vehicle outside a local business, at which point she alerted police, Ratcliff said.
Detectives identified the assailant as Devon Anthony Bell, 22, and attempted to locate him at his residence. Bell was located in the backyard of another residence and detained at that time, Ratcliff said.
A review of surveillance footage confirmed Bell to be the suspect, Ratcliff said.
Bell was arrested and booked on counts of home invasion, sexual battery, aggravated kidnapping and criminal trespass.
