Broussard police identified the man found dead Friday morning partially underneath a home on Regal Drive as 23- year-old Skylar Barry from Lake Arthur, KATC reported.

Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou told reporters on Friday that the man was found around 11:45 a.m. Friday underneath a home in the 100 block of Regal Street, which is under construction. KATC reported he had been shot several times in the upper body.

Decou said the homicide was the first in Broussard in "very many years."

The Lafayette Police Department has now taken the lead on the investigation after detectives said they fiybd suspected links between Barry's death and the killing of a Lafayette man hours earlier. Police have not released any information on how the two fatal shootings might be related.

In the other incident, Lafayette police and firefighters found 28-year-old Justin Zeno of Lafayette fatally shot inside a burning vehicle in the 200 block of Belleau Street in Lafayette around 1 a.m. Friday. That is about seven miles from where Barry was found dead hours later.

Lafayette police spokesman Cpl. Karl Ratcliff asked anyone with information to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
