Firefighters put out blaze at Scott convenience store late Friday _lowres

Firefighters with the Scott Fire Department battled a commercial fire late Friday at the business of a Shop Rite Convenience Store, 1900 Dulles Drive, at the business of Shop Rite Convenience Store.

They arrived shortly after getting the call at 10:06 p.m. to find flames shooting from a portable building located on the outside of the store and threatening a storage container connected to the store.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, before the convenience store could be damaged, fire officials said in a news release. However, the portable building was a total loss, in addition to major heat damage to the contents, located inside of the storage container connected to the store.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators learned that vagrants often sought refuge inside of the portable building, the release states. The business was able to resume regular operations, immediately and there were no injuries.
