A 2-year-old child died Thursday morning in a  house fire on Kettering Circle in Lafayette, fire officials reported.

The toddler’s parents and an infant child survived the fire, which started shortly before 8 a.m. at the family's home in the 100 block of Kettering Circle, the Lafayette Fire Department said in a news release.

The parents frantically searched the home for the toddler, who had been watching television, “but the smoke and flames became too intense,” the release states. Firefighters found the couple with the baby outside as the house burned.

Thirteen trucks from four jurisdictions responded to the blaze, which took 30 minutes to bring under control, according to the news release.
