OPELOUSAS — A 21-year-old Opelousas man remains in critical condition following a Monday night stabbing in the 1000 block of East Overton Street, Opelousas police said in a news release Tuesday.
The victim was at the home of a friend when Cashovas Newman, 32, saw him and chased him into the street, the release said.
Newman stabbed Guidry while the two men fought in the street, the release said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, the release said.

1 arrested, 1 sought in armed robbery
OPELOUSAS — One person has been arrested and one is still being sought in an Aug. 17 armed robbery at a Mobile gas station in Opelousas, police said in a news release.
The U.S. Marshals Service captured Patrick Johnson and returned him to Opelousas on Friday, the Opelousas Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.
Opelousas police continue to search for Carl White Jr., who is also wanted on a warrant for armed robbery.

Abbeville man, 26, dies in canal crash
ABBEVILLE — A 26-year-old Abbeville man died in a single vehicle crash after his pickup truck ran off the roadway and became submerged in a canal off of Acorn Road in Abbeville, according to a news release.
The crash occurred Saturday when Elson White’s truck apparently crossed the center line, struck a guardrail on a bridge, flipped and became submerged in a canal, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office said in the release.
Authorities seek work release escapee
LAFAYETTE — Authorities continue to search for 18-year-old Marcus Dupuis, who walked away from a minimal security work release facility last week.
Dupuis was serving a five-year sentence for a marijuana possession conviction and had been in custody for the last six months, the Sheriff’s Office has said.
Authorities said they believe Dupuis remains in Acadiana, deputies said in a news release.
Dupuis is described as a white man, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 115 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Lafayette man held in invasion, rape
LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lafayette Parish man Monday in an early morning home invasion and simple rape, according to a news release.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of Lesin Broussard Road.
A woman, whose age was not released, told the Sheriff’s Office that the man, later identified as Esteban Poloborjas, 20, entered her home univited and sexually assaulted her while she slept, the release said.
Poloborjas was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count each of home invasion and simple rape.
Poloborhas allegedly knew the victim, the Sheriff’s Office said.
