Gary Pelican, Kinder’s former four-term police chief, pleaded guilty Monday to felony charges for using public credit cards to buy fuel for personal use, Attorney General Buddy Caldwell announced in a news release.
Pelican, 54, pleaded guilty to one felony count each of malfeasance in office and theft over $1,500, Caldwell said. His sentencing in 33rd Judicial District Court is set for June 11.
Pelican was arrested in January 2013 after a Louisiana State Police investigation revealed he had been using the credit cards to buy fuel for himself and his family members, Caldwell said.
Pelican served four terms as chief until 2014, when he chose to not run for re-election.
