The body of a 71-year-old Rayne woman reported missing Tuesday night was found Wednesday in a field near Crowley, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities believe Evelyn Leger died of natural causes, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Her body was found around 11 a.m. about 200 yards from her 1994 Buick Regal in a field off Maraist Road.
Investigators believe Leger became confused while driving and drove into the field, then became stuck when she tried to turn around, the release states. Police believe Leger began walking for help but died on the way.
Leger had last been seen leaving her home in the 200 block of David Neil Road near Rayne to do some business in Crowley.
Family members reported her missing on Tuesday night.
