State fire investigators are looking into a Thursday night house fire that killed a 54-year-old man in Opelousas.

Curtis Iles died in the hallway outside his bedroom in the rear of the home, located at 292 Carl Drive, said Brant Thompson, deputy chief at the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Iles, who was a guest of the home owners, was the only one at the house when the fire broke out. Neighbors called Opelousas firefighters shortly before 8:15 a.m., Thompson said in a news release.

Thompson said the fire originated in Iles’ bedroom. The victim’s body was scheduled to undergo an autopsy Friday.

Brant said state investigators returned to the scene Friday to continue the investigation.
