Investigators are waiting on DNA tests to positively identify a man found dead Sunday morning in the Vermilion River, authorities said Monday.
Although a preliminary autopsy report for the man was still pending, law enforcement are not investigating the death as a homicide, Chief Investigator Keith Talamo, with the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, said.
No obvious physical signs of how the man died were apparent on his body, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. John Babin said.
A boater discovered the man’s body about 8:45 a.m. Sunday in a hook of the Vermilion River near the 1400 block of East Bayou Parkway, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Images released in store armed robbery
Authorities on Monday released surveillance images of a man accused of robbing a Lafayette discount store of an undisclosed amount of cash.
With his face covered beneath the eyes with some sort of makeshift bandanna, the man entered the store while brandishing a pistol and demanded money, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
It happened about 7:25 p.m. Sunday at the Dollar Spot at 5901 Johnston St., just south of the Acadiana Mall.
Anyone with information on the man’s identity or on the robbery is encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (337) 232-8744.
