When the State Police tried to make a traffic stop Sunday morning, it turned into a high-speed chase in St. Martin and Lafayette parishes that ended in a three-vehicle wreck in Lafayette, troopers said.

A trooper attempted to pull over Louis Morman on La. 94 near the border of St. Martin and Lafayette parishes about 10 a.m. Sunday, said Master Trooper Brooks David.

Instead of stopping, Morman, whose age and address were not available Sunday, sped off toward Lafayette with troopers in pursuit. About a mile later, Morman ran a red light at West Pinhook Road and Carmel Drive, causing a three-vehicle crash that injured Morman, a state trooper and two other motorists, KATC-TV reports.

After the crash, Morman tried to escape, but a trooper stopped him with a stun gun and handcuffed him after a short scuffle, David said.

All four individuals injured in the wreck were treated at area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries, David said.

Morman was booked on counts of first-offense DWI, possession of marijuana, vehicular negligent injuring and two fugitive warrants.
