Authorities evacuated Cecilia Junior High School on Tuesday after officials found a written bomb threat in a school restroom.
Law enforcement deemed the school safe around 1 p.m. Tuesday, about an hour after the school’s students were sent home, according to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. The school was reopened for employees.
School officials found the note around 10:15 a.m. and evacuated students a half-mile away to the high school, the Sheriff’s Office said. The students were dismissed around noon, and most were sent home on buses.
Along with a Sheriff’s Office robot and a bomb-sniffing dog from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department, ambulances and firefighters from three area volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.
