Residents inside a Chester Street house were able to escape from a fire when one of them smelled smoke and was able to awaken and alert the others.

Firefighters say when they arrived to the house at 225 Chester St., everyone in the house had safely escaped from the fire.

According to investigators, the fire started in the laundry room and quickly spread to the kitchen.

The residents of the home were asleep when one of them, a 21-year-old, was awakened by the smell of smoke and alerted the others to get out of the house.

The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes; however, the house did sustain heavy fire and smoke damage.

The 21-year-old received minor injuries while breaking a window in an attempt to put out the fire.

Fire investigators have determined the fire was an accident
