Police in the Lafayette have released photos of a car that a gunman was driving before he opened fire in a movie theater.

Lafayette police said in an email Tuesday that they released the photographs in hopes that people may have seen the blue 1995 Lincoln Continental and may remember encountering John “Rusty” Houser.

Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police superintendent, has said that Houser is believed to have traveled to other south Louisiana cities. “We know him to have been in other movie theaters across south Louisiana, probably Lake Charles, here in Lafayette and in Baton Rouge,” he said. “Disguised in a wig in Baton Rouge because somebody said we saw him and we felt so uncomfortable we left.”

Investigators want anyone who thinks they encountered Houser to come forward, as they try to piece together what led to Houser’s shooting spree on Thursday night.

The images show the vehicle with its windows blown out. Bomb squad investigators with State Police used a robot late Thursday to explode a suspicious item sniffed out by a police dog inside Houser’s car. What that item might have been has not been released.

Houser fatally shot two women before killing himself as police closed in on him.
