A Franklin man whose September death has been ruled homicide was strangled with a necktie, according to a summary of his autopsy report.

Jose A. Pineiro-Perez’s cause of death was asphyxia, with the strangulation with the necktie dislocating his cervical spine and causing his neck muscles to hemorrhage, Dr. F.H. Metz Jr., the St. Mary Parish coroner, said in a summary of his Dec. 30 autopsy of the 54-year-old.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office released information in a Wednesday news release that Pineiro-Perez’s death is now being investigated as a homicide. No further details on his death have been made public.

Pineiro-Perez was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m. Sept. 7 in his Dottie Lane home.

Warrant issued for man in home invasion

Lafayette Police issued a warrant Thursday for a New Iberia man wanted in a Wednesday home invasion in the 200 block of Dublin Circle.

Heath Christopher Boutte, 40, is accused of forcing his way into the home around 5:30 a.m. and stealing several items, including the victim’s wallet, and stealing a green 2005 Jaguar, Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

Boutte was later captured on ATM surveillance images using the victim’s credit card, Mouton said.

Police are trying to identify a second man who carried out the invasion with Boutte, Mouton said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on Boutte’s whereabouts or the home invasion to call the Lafayette Police Department or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (337) 232-TIPS.

Heat lamp short sparks fire at mobile home

Authorities said a short in a heat lamp used to protect plants was the likely source of a Wednesday night fire that caused heavy damage to an uninsured mobile home in the 1700 block of East Milton Avenue.

Firefighters from Milton, Youngsville and Broussard Volunteer Fire Departments arrived at the scene at 9:09 p.m. and were able to get the back-porch blaze under control within 15 minutes, Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said.

The home’s occupant told investigators he woke up to his smoke alarm and was able to escape the home safely with his dog, Trahan said.

Second man booked in meth lab probe

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office made a second arrest Wednesday in a month-long investigation into suspected meth lab operations.

Jason Alfred, 37, 171 Two Sisters Court Lot 3, is being held without bail on a warrant for operating a clandestine lab after narcotics detectives began investigating his home and another on Saturn Road in early December, Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Traci Landry said.

Detectives found items consistent with methamphetamine manufacturing at both homes, Landry said.

Cole Fruge, 23, 1302 Saturn Road, was booked Dec. 17, in the investigation, Landry said.

Roommates booked on drug, weapon counts

Narcotics agents on Tuesday booked two roommates accused of setting up a sale of prescription pills, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Kristy Thibodeaux, 38, and Raymond D. Miller, 32, were each booked on counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics and the illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of illegal controlled dangerous substances, said Sgt. Clay Higgins, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Thibodeaux and Miller are accused of arranging to sell Adderall at the trailer park where they were arrested, Higgins said. Agents also found a handgun inside their vehicle, Higgins said.

Both remained in jail Thursday afternoon.
