State Police troopers on Wednesday arrested a LaPlace man and his Alabama passenger after finding more than 300 pounds of marijuana inside their vehicle during a traffic stop near Henderson.
Police booked Herbert Harper, 36, and Terrill James, 22, of Mobile, Alabama, into the St. Martin Parish jail on counts of possessing with intent to distribute 344 pounds of marijuana, according to a State Police news release.
Police also found $4,177 in cash inside Harper’s 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck.
Troopers requested a State Police K-9 officer when they “became suspicious of Harper’s behavior” during a 1 a.m. traffic stop, State Police spokesman Brooks David said.
Harper is also accused of impeding the flow of traffic and having illegal window tint as he traveled eastbound on I-10 near Henderson.
Both men had been released from jail on Thursday afternoon, each on a $75,000 bond.
