Police on Thursday said an arrest has been made and a victim identified in a fatal Wednesday shooting in Lafayette.

Cord Paul Anderson, 27, is accused of second-degree murder in the killing of 31-year-old Aaron Carmouche, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department.

Authorities arrested Anderson in St. Martin Parish, the release stated.

Witnesses told police the two men were inside a vehicle in the 200 block of Rue Royale when Anderson opened fire on Carmouche and killed him, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

A man was shot to death Wednesday in the 200 block of Rue Royale, Lafayette police are reporting.

Police, who were called around 6:20 p.m. to Webb Street, said the victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.

Witnesses reported the shooting took place on Rue Royale, according to a Lafayette Police news release.

KATC-TV reported that witnesses told them that those involved in the incident later ended up on Webb Street and Louisiana Avenue.

The victim’s identity will not be released until notification of next of kin, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
