Authorities said a suspect has been identified in the theft Sunday of cash registers from two businesses in Broussard and New Iberia.

Larry Douglass Wynn Jr., 40, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, is accused of entering a New Iberia convenience store in the 1500 block of Weeks Island Road and distracting the clerk before stealing the cash register around 4:50 p.m., Maj. Ryan Turner, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said in a news release.

Wynn was seen fleeing in a red Chevrolet Trailblazer, which has been located by Iberia Parish deputies, Turner said.

A similar crime happened at 3:09 p.m. at the Broussard Subway restaurant in the 1200 block of Albertson’s Parkway, Police Chief Brannon Decou said.

Wynn, who is wanted on counts of simple robbery, is described as a white man weighing 200 pounds and standing about 6-feet 6-inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with “New York” and the number “5” written on it, blue pants and a black baseball hat, Turner said.

Anyone with information on Wynn’s whereabouts or on the crime is asked to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 369-3711 or the Broussard Police Department at (337) 837-6259.

Evangeline man killed by police identified

The man who was shot and killed by State Police after reportedly taking his girlfriend hostage Thursday in rural Evangeline Parish has been identified as Nathan Massey, KATC-TV reported.

The hostage situation began after 9 a.m. in a trailer park on Becky Sue Street after neighbors reported screaming and gunfire in a trailer, State Police spokesman Brooks David said.

A trooper fatally shot Massey sometime before noon after the victim broke a window, screaming that Massey was going to kill her, Master Trooper Brooks David said.

The victim was still in the hospital as of Monday afternoon, her brother told KATC-TV.

The victim’s father, who suffered a heart attack during the hostage situation and had to be rushed to the hospital, is also said to be stable, KATC-TV reported.

Lafayette murder suspect back in jail

The Lafayette man accused in the Christmas Day shooting death of 23-year-old Wilbert Simon was booked into jail again Friday after he had been freed on a reduced bond.

Chesmond Paris, also 23, is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 bail. The amount reflects the original number set on Paris’ second-degree murder count before now-retired district Judge Herman Clause reduced it to $25,000 on Dec. 31, days after Paris surrendered to police Dec. 27.

Paris was indicted Wednesday on the second-degree murder count. His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 24.
