Two men accused in two separate but related Saturday night drive-by shootings in Sunset were arrested Wednesday, an official said.

Sunset Assistant Police Chief Kevin Pugh said Thursday that witnesses identified the shooters as Michael Maurice White, 27, 228 Dargin, Sunset, and Douglas Citizen Jr., 19, 1953 Jessie Richard Road, Church Point.

Both incidents involved the same family and stemmed from a dispute that occurred during a party in the 300 block of Richard Street, Pugh said.

White and Citizen are believed to have been in the vehicle at the same time during both shootings, Pugh said.

The first shooting occurred about 9:40 p.m., when Citizen drove by and fired three or four shots outside the residence, Pugh said.

The second shooting occurred about an hour later outside the Mini-Mart in Sunset, Pugh said.

White fired at least five shots at a vehicle occupied by four adults and a 2-year-old child, striking the vehicle twice on the driver’s side door, Pugh said.

No one was injured in either shooting, Pugh said.

White was arrested at his mother’s home, located outside of the city limits, Pugh said.

A family member persuaded White to surrender, Pugh said.

White was arrested on five counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and one bench warrant, according to jail records.

Soon after, Citizen turned himself in at the urging of his family, Pugh said.

Citizen was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count of assault by drive-by shooting, according to jail records.

The nature of the dispute is still under investigation, Pugh said.
