A 46-year-old man was killed Thursday night when he drove his Honda Accord into the rear of a westbound 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Lafayette.

The victim, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, was pronounced dead at the scene near I-10 mile marker 103, Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a release.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was not injured and also was not identified, was traveling west in the outside lane when he felt something hit the back of his truck.

“The driver pulled over to the shoulder to inspect his trailer and discovered the victim’s 2012 Honda lodged beneath it,” Mouton said.

An investigation is ongoing.
