Fire investigators on Wednesday night arrested a Lafayette man who admitted to setting fire to a vacant apartment at Vieux Orleans Circle.

Paul Odom, 31, of Lafayette, was booked into the Lafayette Parish jail on a count of aggravated arson. The fire caused moderate damage to the vacant apartment and displaced tenants in an upstairs unit, Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said.

Firefighters extinguished the 9:30 p.m. blaze in about 10 minutes, Trahan said. American Red Cross temporarily housed the neighboring tenants, whose apartment received minor damage.
