A Jennings woman was killed Saturday after she was thrown from the motorcycle she’d been riding on Interstate 10, State Police said.

Donnie Benoit, 51, was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Philip Benoit, 54, around 11 a.m. Saturday, Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt said in a news release. The motorcycle drifted off the right side of the interstate “for unknown reasons,” he said.

After hitting a fence, Donnie and Philip Benoit were both thrown off the bike.

“Despite correctly wearing an approved Department of Transportation helmet, both sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to (a) local hospital,” Reichardt said.

Donnie Benoit was later pronounced dead.

A toxicology sample was taken and will be analyzed, Reichardt said. The investigation is ongoing.
