A 2-year-old Franklin girl died after she was ejected from a vehicle in a crash Wednesday morning in the Ashton area, according to Louisiana State Police
The child was not properly restrained, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release.
The driver, Grace Loustaloot, 27, of Franklin was arrested for vehicular homicide in the death of Temperence Finister, also of Franklin, according to the news release.
State Police were called shortly after 7:30 a.m. to the single-vehicle crash on La. 83 south of U.S. 90 in Ashton.
The preliminary investigation revealed Loustaloot was driving a 2005 Ford Expedition southbound on La. 83 and ran off the right side of the roadway. Loustaloot overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide across both lanes of travel, enter a ditch and overturn.
The toddler sustained critical injuries and was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, David said. Two other juvenile passengers were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
