A 21-year-old Baton Rouge man died of injuries from a reported accidental shooting early Thursday morning in Lafayette, police said. They identified the victim as Colin Norwood.

Lafayette police responded to reports of an accidental shooting at 12:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Bertrand Drive. When officers arrived, they found the victim with a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to a police statement.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Detectives interviewed another 21-year-old man who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
