State Police are investigating two fatal crashes that happened about 30 minutes apart Thursday afternoon and killed two people in the Acadiana area.

A motorcyclist died at the scene and two people were hospitalized with minor injuries after a 3 p.m. crash near the intersection of La. 167 and La. 699 in Vermilion Parish, said Master Trooper Brooks David, State Police spokesman for Troop I.

The cause of that accident, which involved a motorcycle and a passenger car, is still under investigation, David said.

In a separate incident in Lafayette, David said, the driver of a Toyota sedan died about 3:30 p.m. in a crash that involved the Toyota, a large, tractor-hauling truck and a Dodge car.

He said the accident occurred at the intersection of La. 92 and E. Broussard Road.

The Toyota made a left turn in front of the truck into the westbound lane of La. 92, and the truck struck the Toyota, which spun counterclockwise and crashed into the Dodge, David said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of those killed remained withheld late Thursday pending notification of next-of-kin, David said.
