Detectives in Lafayette are trying to determine whether three armed robberies late Wednesday and early Thursday are related.

The robberies happened within four hours of each other and in a three-mile area, starting with an 11:15 p.m. robbery on North Pierce Street, followed by a 1 a.m. robbery on Moss Street and a 3:15 a.m. robbery on Claudia Drive, according to a Lafayette Police Department news release.

The two men robbed in the 800 block of North Pierce Street had arranged to meet with two people to sell two cellphones when a man exited an older model Chevrolet Impala, entered the victims’ backseat and brandished a handgun while demanding the phones, the release stated.

The two men robbed in the 3000 block of Moss Street were at a carwash when a woman approached and asked for a dollar, police said. Moments later, two men — one with a handgun and the other with a rifle — demanded that the men lie on the ground before stealing their phones, money and keys, the release stated. The robbers fled in a blue, older-model Ford Taurus.

One woman was treated at a hospital for minor injuries after two armed and masked men approached her, one of whom struck her in the head with a gun and stole her purse in the 300 block of Claudia Drive, the release stated.

Police asked anyone with information to contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (337) 232-TIPS.
