A Palmetto man arrested on Tuesday has confessed to shooting and killing his wife and disposing of her body in a St. Landry Parish canal, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sam Clark Jr., 52, of 243 Phillips Loop, was booked on a count of second-degree murder in the killing of 28-year-old Kimberly Perkins Clark, who died from two gunshot wounds to the head, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Bond has not been set.
Clark, who had been identified as the last person to see his wife alive, confessed to shooting her on the spillway levee bridge and disposing of her body there, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Investigators determined the couple “had a very contentious and abusive relationship,” the release stated.
Kimberly Perkins Clark’s body was found around 5:40 p.m. on March 21 in the spillway canal near Palmetto.
Her husband confessed to shooting her the night before, on March 20, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said.
