State Police investigated two fatal crashes Wednesday afternoon that each took the life of a Youngsville resident.
A right rear tire failure caused 58-year-old Vincent Mancusa to lose control and overturn his 2010 Chevrolet Express van after crossing into the northbound lane of Interstate 49 near LA 29 in Ville Platte, according to State Police.
Although Mancuso wore a seatbelt in the 3:30 p.m. crash, the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead on the scene, State Police said.
Shirley Semond, 72, died around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on LA 82, north of Abbeville and near Bienville Road, after she ran her 2009 Nissan Altima car off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, State Police said.
The Vermilion Parish Coroner pronounced Semond, who was not wearing a seat belt, dead on the scene.
Although impairment is not suspected in either crash, toxicology samples were taken for analysis, State Police said. Both crashes remain under investigation.
