An argument Tuesday between two passersby and two people in a yard escalated into a gunfight, leaving one man wounded, Lafayette police said.

Two men were walking down Debaillon Street near the intersection of Doc Duhon Street when they got into an argument with a male and female standing in the yard at 301 Doc Duhon St., said Cpl. Paul Mouton, a Lafayette Police spokesman.

One of the males on the street pulled out a pistol and began shooting in the direction of the male and female in the yard, Mouton said.

The male in the yard pulled out a pistol and began returning fire at the two men in the street, Mouton said.

One of the men in the street was grazed on the side of the head by a bullet, Mouton said. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he listed is in good condition, Mouton said.

The other three people ran from the area.

Detectives are in the process of locating the three people who fled, Mouton said, and are speaking to the gunshot victim at the hospital. Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of those individuals involved may call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
