A Breaux Bridge man was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle veered off the road and struck a building, authorities said.

Dominick Roy, 23, was driving westbound on La. 93 near Grain Elevator Road in St. Martin Parish when his SUV left the road while entering a curve, striking an unoccupied structure, according to a news release from State Police. Both the structure and the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Roy was fatally injured in the crash, which occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday.

The building involved was part of the NUNU Arts and Cultural Collective in Arnaudville, according to a report from KATC-TV. The historic La Pataterie building was a total loss.

Investigators were unable to determine whether Roy was wearing a seat belt, State Police said. They also are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether impairment could have played a role.
