A Lafayette man arrested Saturday is accused of cutting a woman’s throat.

Deputies arrested Marion Noel Montes-Velasquez, 29, on a count of attempted second-degree murder after finding the victim with two large cuts on her neck, according to a Monday news release from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Although Montes-Velasquez fled the crime scene in the 200 block of Falcon Drive, near Scott, deputies found him soon after responding to the emergency call, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Montes-Velasquez also was booked on two unrelated outstanding warrants for failing to appear for arraignment for resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in the Lafayette Parish jail on Monday.

A $2,500 bail is set for one of his fugitive warrants, but no bail is set for the other counts.
