An Opelousas man arrested Saturday in a hit-and-run crash in Scott said he didn’t stop after he crashed into another vehicle that night because he’s an undocumented citizen, Scott Police said.
Grosvin Ortiz Aguilar, 27, was arrested on multiple counts related to the crash around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Westgate and Eraste Landry Roads, police said in a news release.
Aguilar’s girlfriend reported the crash, saying she was the one involved in a hit-and-run accident in her black Nissan Maxima, until she eventually confessed to police that Aguilar was driving the car and wrecked, police said.
Aguilar admitted to the crash and was arrested on hit-and-run driving, reckless driving, stop sign violation in a crash and no driver’s license in possession in a crash.
A woman reported the hit-and-run after a black Nissan ran a stop sign, took a hard right and ran directly into the front of her vehicle, police said.
