A 20-year-old motorcycle passenger from Erath was killed early Thursday on Kaliste Saloom Road after the driver veered into the opposite lane and hit a pickup truck, officials said.

Chasitie Campbell was pronounced dead at a local hospital. She and the operator of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries from being thrown after the impact, Lafayette police said. The name of the motorcycle operator was not released.

Campbell was a passenger on a blue Honda traveling south on Kaliste Saloom Road around 12:10 a.m. The bike veered into the opposite lane and hit a Chevrolet Silverado that was turning left from the southbound lane of Kaliste Saloom onto Ramblewood Drive. The impact was on the driver’s side of the Silverado, Sgt. Kyle Soriez said in a news release.

The driver of the Silverado and a passenger were not injured.
