A 69-year-old Broussard man died in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on La. 96 in St. Martin Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash, shortly after 10:37 a.m. near Windy Hill Road, took the life of Marvin Deselles, who was thrown from his motorcycle after being hit by one car and into the path of an oncoming car, said Master Trooper Brooks E. David.

The preliminary investigation revealed Klifford Moss Jr., 24, of Lafayette, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima west on La. 96 behind a Chrysler 300 car and a pick-up truck. Moss drove across the center line in an attempt to pass the two vehicles, David said in a news release.

When Moss entered the eastbound lane, his vehicle struck Deselles’ 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle head on. Deselles was thrown into the path of the Chrysler 300, which rolled over him and drove off without stopping, David said.

Deselles was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office.

Toxicology samples were taken from Deselles and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Moss was given a chemical breath test and is suspected of being impaired, David said.

Moss was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on counts of vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, limitations on passing on the left, and expired inspection sticker.

Troopers are still looking for the Chrysler 300. Anyone with information on the vehicle is encouraged to call Louisiana State Police Troop I at (337) 262-5880.
