A suspect surrendered Monday morning to authorities in the Sunday shooting death in Lafayette of an Opelousas man.
Moses Derrick Arceneaux, 30, was booked on a count of second-degree murder in the killing of Marcus Jermain Aggison, 32, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Aggison died at a hospital after the shooting in the 100 block of Latin Drive, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the shooting around 12:22 a.m. and discovered Aggison wounded and soon identified Arceneaux as a suspect, the Sheriff’s Office said. The two were involved in a “verbal altercation” prior to the shooting, deputies said.
Arceneaux’s address was not immediately available. He remained in the Lafayette Parish jail Monday morning in lieu of a $250,000 bail.
Aggison had been a victim in another shooting last year when he was shot twice while in the 1200 block of Daly Street in Opelousas, police said at the time.
Police arrested Quantis Deshon Richard, of Opelousas, on a count of attempted second-degree murder in that shooting.
Police have not said whether the two shootings are related.
