Woman dies after stepping in front of car

A Port Barre woman died Friday night when she stepped into the path of an oncoming car on Gloria Switch Road, Lafayette police said.

Linda Gould, 52, was walking along the roadway about 11 p.m. when she suddenly stepped into the path of a Chevrolet sedan, which slammed into her and threw her to the south of the roadway, said Cpl. Paul Mouton, a Lafayette Police Department spokesman.

Gould was pronounced dead at the scene, Mouton said. An investigation of the incident continues, Mouton said.
