Authorities in St. Landry Parish shot and killed a Scott man Wednesday afternoon following a four-hour standoff with police in which he held his girlfriend hostage inside a home outside Port Barre.
Timothy R. Albert, 40, of 199 Freedom Lane in Scott, died from two gunshot wounds after police entered the home on La. 741 around 3 p.m., St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said. Albert pointed the high-powered rifle he was using to hold his girlfriend hostage at the officers, Guidroz said.
The woman was unharmed, as was the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, whom police removed from the home early in the situation, Guidroz said.
Police arrived on the scene around 11:10 a.m.
“Witnesses called and stated the individual was chasing the woman with what appeared to be a high-powered rifle around the yard. He pulled her into the house, still armed with the high-powered rifle, and that’s when we responded and he barricaded himself inside the house,” Guidroz said.
An autopsy will determine whether Albert was under the influence of any substances at the time.
