A 53-year-old Lafayette bicyclist was killed Sunday night when he fell into the path of a motorist on West Congress Street, police said.

Thomas S. Landry was transported to a hospital after the 8:15 p.m. accident and later died, Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

The driver of a 2013 Toyota Tundra was headed west in the 1700 block of West Congress as Landry rode his bike on the sidewalk, Mouton said, recounting the driver’s statements to investigators.

“As the vehicle drove near the bicyclist, the bicyclist fell directly into the path of the vehicle,” which hit Landry before fully stopping, Mouton said in a news release.

The driver of the truck was not injured. The crash remains under investigation, Mouton said.
