A Lafayette Middle School student arrested Thursday is accused of scrawling a bomb threat on a bathroom wall, leading to the school’s evacuation.

A school resource officer investigating the threat Wednesday identified a student believed responsible for the writing, which had caused the school’s students to be evacuated to a nearby elementary school while police swept and secured the facilities, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

Because the student is a minor, his name will not be released. He was arrested on a count of terrorizing and was sent to the Juvenile Assessment Center, police said.

The note, found around 8 a.m. Wednesday, said a bomb would explode at the school by 9 a.m., police said.
