A New Iberia man was arrested after he intentionally set a fire in the Iberia Medical Center's intensive care unit waiting room, according to a news release from the Louisiana state fire marshal.

Ruddy Romero, Jr., 25, set fire to a hospital blanket on top of a set of chairs around 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to the release. The arson activated the hospital's sprinkler system and threatened "more than 100 patients, staff members and visitors" at the hospital, according to the release.

Romero was booked into Iberia Parish jail on aggravated arson and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
