A 17-year-old booked Friday on a count of attempted second-degree murder is accused of shooting at the mother of someone with whom he had taken issue.

Jules Roman, 248 Rosier St., is being held at the Iberia Parish jail in lieu of $50,000 bail in the incident, said Maj. Ryan Turner, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Roman showed up at a home in the 100 block of Sparrow Street looking for the 39-year-old victim’s son before he shot at her and missed, Turner said. The victim’s husband then fired his own gun into the air with intentions to scare off the shooter, who fled, Turner said.

The victim’s son was involved in a previous altercation with the shooter, she told deputies.

Goodley pleads not guilty in slaying

The Ville Platte man accused of killing his grandmother in early November pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Thursday in Evangeline Parish, KATC-TV reported.

The Evangeline Parish District Attorney’s Office said the trial for Christopher Goodley has been set for June 8.

If convicted, Goodley faces mandatory life in prison.

Goodley’s grandmother, 80-year-old Delsy Williams, was reported missing Nov. 1. A farmer found her dead the next day in an Evangeline Parish field.

Investigators zeroed in on Goodley as a suspect on Nov. 3. They scoured Ville Platte before finding him in an abandoned mobile home in Ville Platte at about noon that day.

Traffic stop leads to meth arrests

Parish narcotics agents uncovered two meth labs at a Wytchwood Drive home Thursday after discovering meth on one of its residents during a traffic stop in Amelia, authorities said.

Ira Grow Jr., 58, 3107 Wytchwood Drive, was booked on methamphetamine manufacturing, operating a clandestine laboratory, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after giving detectives consent to search the home, said Traci Landry, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Detectives were led to Grow after the arrest of 32-year-old Lynette Guidry, who lives at the Wytchwood Drive home and was booked on felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Landry said.

Narcotics agents found three bags of meth and a glass pipe on Guidry during a traffic stop for speeding, Landry said. Guidry was also booked on driving under suspension and driving without a legal license plate, Landry said.

Both Grow and Guidry remained in the St. Mary Parish jail Friday evening in lieu of $1,500 and $2,000 bail, respectively.
