One of the people shot and injured Sunday on Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette was shot in the back and one in the right hip. Both were listed in stable condition, police records show.

The victims said told police they were in the parking lot of the old Shoney's on Evangeline Thruway when someone started shooting. They said they weren't targets of the shooting, but they jumped into their car to get away and "just happened to get shot as they were driving away," Lafayette Police records show.

Spent casings from pistols and rifles were found at the scene, the report states.

The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL POST, Aug. 13, 2:36 p.m.

Two people were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in the 2200 block of Northeast Evangeline Thruway, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

When officers arrived shortly after 3 a.m., several vehicles were seen fleeing, Lafayette Police spokeswoman Cpl. Bridgette P. Dugas said in a news release.

Moments later a call from a local hospital revealed two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, Dugas said. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were listed in stable condition.
